Mont-Saint-Michel Tourism
The Mont Saint Michel
“Wonder of the West” and a major place of pilgrimage since the Middle Ages, Mont-Saint-Michel has the particularity of being erected on a rocky islet, surrounded by a magnificent wild bay, scene of the highest tides in Continental Europe. Perched at the top of this islet, its abbey arouses admiration as does its medieval town surrounded by ramparts. Dominated by the tower of its abbey church, the Benedictine abbey of Mont-Saint-Michel offers a marvelous range of architecture, ranging from the 11th to the 16th century. A remarkable architectural ensemble which has earned it a UNESCO World Heritage status with its bay since 1979. Between Normandy and Brittany, this grandiose site, located 3.5 hours from Paris, attracts visitors from all over the world.
Allow at least half a day to have time to wander around the village, on the ramparts and to climb up to the abbey (not to be missed). In summer, at nightfall, you can enjoy nightly shows and entertainment.
