Auberge de la Sélune

A garden for your rest

The Auberge de la Sélune wouldn't be the same without its garden.

Combining nature and heritage, it contributes to the soothing and calm atmosphere of the place. In simplicity, bordering the Sélune River, it is an oasis for birds who decorate it with their varied songs. Only the house cat disturbs the concert of blackbirds, tits, and other finches.

You can make the most of the garden in every season, each with its own special features. The floods of the Sélune and the mimosa in winter, the camellias and rhododendrons in spring, the roses and fuchsias in summer, the dazzling gold of the maples and the tulip tree in autumn, are the companions of our charming hotel.

Discover all the nooks and crannies, and talk about it with your hosts! They'll be delighted to show you the secrets.

Lounging in the garden

Why not make the most of our garden?

Our guests take great pleasure in having a refreshment or a coffee there when they arrive. When they stay at the hotel in the afternoon, we like to see them reading in a deckchair provided for them, or letting themselves be lulled by the atmosphere, sitting on a granite bench. Here, children play under the relaxed gaze of their parents. Here, cigar smokers enjoy the moment. In the evening, in the low light of dusk, they all dine and enjoy fine wines on the terrace.

Staying in our flower garden, strolling around, taking a slow stroll, if only for a day's break in the midst of the visits of a long stay. Savour the passing of time.

Auberge de la Sélune

Secrets of a local heritage

The Auberge de la Sélune moved into Ducey's former hospice, transforming this beautiful stone building into a charming hotel and restaurant in 1981.

The Auberge retains many traces of this era and before, and plays a major role in preserving Ducey's heritage. The marvellous building we call "the little chapel", with its characteristic imperial roof, hides its secrets. Beside it, the Virgin Mary watches over us in her beneficent stone setting. The pavilion of rooms in the garden contains within its walls evidence of Ducey's former municipal showers.

Even the car park overlooks the village's old wash-houses.

And if you're interested in sustainable development, come and discover in our garden how our ancestors mastered it!

Shrubs, flowers and herbs

The garden at the Auberge de la Sélune is home to many plants and shrubs. Camellias, magnolias, rhododendrons, roses, marigolds, begonias, geraniums and fuchsias add colour to our days. Some of these flowers are used by Sandra to decorate the restaurant tables, when the flowering season allows. In winter, the greenhouse protects them from the cold, while we wait for spring to come.

A variety of aromatic plants also adorn it. The chef and his team can pick mint, sage, rosemary, thyme, chives, curry herbs, bay leaves and parsley for their guests. Watching them pick these herbs in the evening before serving is a ritual not to be missed.

Cool trees and river

It's summer. The heat has set in, perhaps too much today for a truly relaxing holiday. The trees in the garden are calling your name. In the refreshing shade of the maples, the tulip tree and the magnolia, with your feet in the grass, you find a touch of coolness, amplified by a gentle breeze from the river. In fact, you might even think of taking a few steps, barefoot, in the trickle of flowing water. All you have to do is climb down the few steps straight from the garden. At the water's edge, your senses are awakened.
