Holidays in Mont-Saint-Michel
When to go to Mont Saint-Michel?
With 3 million tourists per year, Mont Saint-Michel is one of the most visited tourist places in France. For this reason, you should know that holiday periods and long weekends are very busy in the Mont and its region. This is why we advise you to avoid these times if you can, and in any case to reserve your accommodation sufficiently in advance (we sometimes receive people late who do not know where to stay in the evening, so that everything is full around the Mount).
In the summer season, you will be able to avoid a good part of the crowds if you visit Mont Saint-Michel either before 10:00 a.m. or late in the evening. On summer evenings, you can enjoy the Nocturnes de l'Abbaye du Mont Saint-Michel until midnight, which is an opportunity for a very beautiful walk in the heart of the illuminated abbey church.
Winter is an equally good time to visit Mont Saint-Michel. If of course you will find fewer people there, you will also be able to enjoy the walk on the ramparts of the Mount, in windy weather with alternation between showers and clearings. In addition, the play of lights in the sky over the bay combined with the sensation of the elements is a real pleasure to discover (well dressed of course...).
Access to Mont Saint-Michel
The car park is before the dike and allows access to the Mont thanks to shuttles. It is a 20-minute drive from the Auberge de la Sélune.
The tides at Mont Saint-Michel
The Bay of Mont Saint-Michel has one of the highest tidal ranges in the world. To take full advantage of the tides, you need to come during the full moon or new moon, times when the coefficients are the greatest.
Mont Saint-Michel Abbey
It is common for visitors to Mont Saint-Michel to simply discover the village, without going as far as visiting the Abbey. However, this is an error, as this monument is an architectural gem steeped in history. Classic visits last one hour, and are the minimum you need to do.
